Man of the West | July/August 2017 | Oklahoma Today Magazine

Harold T. “H” Holden is one of Oklahoma’s most celebrated Western artists, known for his striking bronze sculptures that capture the true spirit of the cowboy. Though humble in conversation, his work speaks boldly for him—powerful depictions of horsemen, ranch life, and the raw grit of the West.

Holden’s deep connection to his subject matter comes from years spent working with horses, a familiarity that shows in every muscle, movement, and detail of his sculptures. His pieces appear across college campuses, museums, and public spaces throughout the region, each one reflecting authenticity and a lifetime of experience.=

Respected by peers and historians alike, Holden was inducted into the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum’s Hall of Great Westerners in 2017—the first Oklahoma artist to receive the honor. Surrounded by the icons of Western culture, he accepted the award with characteristic humility, standing beside a bronze Wrangler sculpture he himself once created.

Quiet by nature but powerful in artistry, Holden continues to leave an enduring mark on Western heritage through the timeless stories his sculptures tell.
