Sculptor gets call to Hall of Great Westerners
Enid native Harold T. Holden, known affectionately as “H,” continues to cement his place in the history of Western art with his induction into the Hall of Great Westerners at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. Only the 10th artist ever to receive this honor, Holden joins a distinguished group that includes presidents, legendary artists like Frederic Remington, and iconic Western figures.
Holden’s career spans decades, from painting a nearly six-foot oil portrait in the Oklahoma State Capitol to creating monumental bronze sculptures that capture the cowboy way of life across the state. His smaller works, like The Wrangler, will be presented to each honoree at the Western Heritage Awards—a fitting tribute to his influence and craft.
Beyond personal accolades, Holden’s dedication to preserving and celebrating Western heritage continues through mentorship and exhibitions. He will showcase his artwork alongside Chickasaw artist Mike Larsen in the Oklahoma Hall of Fame’s “Cowboys and Indians” exhibit, highlighting both historical and contemporary perspectives of the West.
With each sculpture, painting, and public installation, Holden honors the stories, values, and spirit of the West, ensuring that its legacy continues to inspire future generations.
